When Michael Nutter was a candidate for mayor, Philadelphia was facing a number of major environmental challenges. To highlight these concerns, Nutter promised, if elected, to make Philadelphia the greenest city in the country. Within months of his inauguration, he established the first-ever Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, designed to improve the city’s ecology, preserve and protect public health, and build a stronger economy. Sage was selected to design the communications strategy and help launch the new program. The work included naming the initiative (and we did – Greenworks Philadelphia) and building a supporting message platform that involved testing with an advisory council and a diverse citywide group. To implement the strategy, the Sage team created the content for all the campaign’s communications materials, supervised the production of a launch video, handled media relations and organized the launch and one-year progress report events.
