Government Performance Project

State governments showed mixed success in weathering a difficult financial storm in which plunging revenues coincided with surging costs. Some states were successful in figuring out how to deal with the crisis while others struggled. This conclusion was based on research from the Government Performance Project’s “Grading the States,” the nation’s only comprehensive, independent analysis of how well each state is managed. We managed a nationwide media campaign for the project that included the writing of op-eds and the placement of articles about the project in nearly all 50 states. The project was funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts.
